Kaylon Rashaad Woods South Bend, IN — Yoga Instructor Died in Targeted Shooting
A violent and deeply personal tragedy has shaken the communities of South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana, following a targeted shooting that left yoga instructor Kaylon Rashaad Woods dead, a woman seriously injured, and the suspected gunman later found deceased.
Police say the incident occurred Monday afternoon at the Highlands Apartments on Links Drive in South Bend. Officers responded around 1:50 p.m., where they found 38-year-old Kaylon Rashaad Woods suffering from fatal gunshot wounds inside an apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Outside the building, authorities located 30-year-old Madi Morin, who had also been shot. She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and is expected to recover.
Investigators identified the suspect as 41-year-old Adonis Latroy Joseph of Elkhart, a former South Bend police officer. Authorities allege the attack was targeted and stemmed from a personal conflict. According to investigators, Joseph was Morin’s former partner and the father of her two daughters, while Morin had been in a relationship with Woods.
Following the shooting, law enforcement tracked Joseph to a residence in the Golden Pond Trail subdivision in Elkhart County. A large police response, including SWAT units, converged on the area. Authorities later confirmed that Joseph was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a fire broke out at the residence.
Officials noted that Joseph previously served with the South Bend Police Department from 2011 until his resignation in 2018, which followed an internal investigation into alleged misconduct.
As the investigation continues, tributes are pouring in for Kaylon Rashaad Woods, who was widely known in the local wellness community. He taught at DRIP Infrared Sauna Studio, where colleagues and students remember him as a calming, uplifting presence who brought people together.
His passing has left a deep void among family, friends, and the broader community, who are remembering him for the peace, positivity, and connection he shared with those around him.
