We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, classmates, and community of Payson Groff, whose passing at just 15 years old is a heartbreaking and unimaginable loss. In this time of profound sorrow, her loved ones are held close in thought and prayer as they reflect on a life that, though brief, carried extraordinary meaning and promise.
Born on March 8, 2011, in Kankakee, Illinois, Payson was a student at Herscher High School who stood out for her ambition, intelligence, and determination. She dreamed of attending Northwestern University and becoming a lawyer, a goal that reflected her strong sense of purpose and her desire to make a positive difference in the world. Those who knew her saw a future filled with potential and possibility.
Payson embraced life with creativity and enthusiasm. She found joy in art, drawing, softball, and track, and she cherished time spent with friends and family. As a loving older sister, she took pride in her role within her family. She also enjoyed simple pleasures like playing Fortnite, collecting Monster High dolls, and creating content for her TikTok series, “Cooking with Good Looking,” alongside her best friend.
She loved being outdoors, watching fireworks, and traveling—especially to Panama City Beach, a place that brought her peace and happiness. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church. Though her time was short, Payson’s light, love, and dreams will live on in the hearts of all who knew and cherished her.
